Major milestones in our history

Citystate Group Pte Ltd was originally formed in 1987 to hold the interests of its principal shareholders in the areas of insurance and reinsurance underwriting.

It has since expanded into a service industry oriented Group with operations in General Insurance Underwriting, Insurance Broking Business, Travel, Food and Beverage, Property Development, Property Management, Arts and Events Management, and Education.

Here’s the most important events in the company’s history.

OCTOBER 1987

Establishment of CMGH

Citystate Management Group Holdings was formed to hold the interest of its principle shareholders, Mr Leow Siak Fah and Mr Ng Tian Ming in the areas of insurance and reinsurance writing.

OCT 1987

Newstate Stenhouse Insurance

Newstate Stenhouse Insurance was incorporated to provide clients with a one-stop risk management insurance and reinsurance broking services throughout Asia.

MAY 1991

Acquisition of Ardent Travel

CMGH acquired Ardent Travel, our first travel agency (name was subsequently changed to Citystate Ardent Travel).

JAN 1994

1996

Acquired Frosts Food & Beverage which imports and distributes foods from all over the world in Singapore. Ventured into realty by tendering for, and renovating several conservation buildings on Club Street including 36 Club Street, which won the Architectural Heritage Award in 2000 for conservation.

Citystate Properties

Citystate Properties completed the renovation and restoration of its building at Club Street, Mohammed Ali Lane and Gemmill Lane.

SEP 1990

Formation of Quix Pte Ltd

Formed food related company Quix Pte Ltd, a fresh food processor and manufacturer of ready to eat packaged sandwiches and salads.

JAN 2000

New Millennium

Expanded business interests in the travel industry by buying a majority stake in Expotours (name was subsequently changed to Citystate Travel). Frosts Food & Beverage established Frosts Food International, an international food trading company.

JUN 2000

AF Travel Stake

Acquired a majority stake in AF Travel in Malaysia.

FEB 2001

Citystate Travel

Expotours was subsequently changed to Citystate Travel and ventured into cruises.

JAN 2003

Diversification of Business

Ventured into the Japanese Restaurant business by acquiring a majority stake in Kushingin, Nanbantei and Shinjuku Japanese Restaurant Ltd. Invested in Education with Julia Gabriel Centre for Learning and Chiltern House. Formed Citystate Arts and Events Management and successfully staged its first musical, “The Sound of Music”.

Set up of EQ Insurance

EQ Insurance was issued a multi-line insurance license by the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

JAN 2007

2009

Citystate Capital Asia was formed to develop a pan-Asian Insurance Group of companies in Insurance Underwriting and Broking. Citystate Holidays, the leisure brand of Citystate Travel was re-launched as Citystate Cruises in Dec 2013.

SEP 2009

Formation of Frosts Fine Food

Frosts Fine Food was formed to handle the distribution of gourmet food products.

JAN 2010

Citystate Group

Citystate Management Group Holdings changed its name to Citystate Group. Citystate Group became a major shareholder in Julia Gabriel Group.

JAN 2011

2012

Julia Gabriel Group created Chengzhu Mandarin Centre, a Chinese language and cultural school children. Citystate Capital Asia entered a strategic alliance with a general insurance company in Indonesia, PT Asuransi Eka Llyod Jaya through its subsidiary PT CCA. Citystate Group successfully acquired Ossia Music Holdings.

Set up of Indo Properties

Indo Properties Investment was set up to hold business interest such as property in Indonesia.

MAR 2013

Trade Winds Tours

Citystate Group acquired Tradewinds Tours Limited in Hong Kong.

OCT 2014

Tech Investment

Invested into LDR Technology, a leading, award-winning mobile technology and eLearning solution company.

2015

Opening of Nanbantei Second Branch

Nanbantei Japanese restaurant opens up a second outlet at Chinatown Point.

JUN 2016

Expansion of our Educational Business

Invested into TSC Holdings Pte Ltd who operates a chain of Student Care and Stanford Scholars Tuition Centers.

JUN 2017

Tech Investment - HR Application

Invested as a majority seed investor of a tech start-up, YUVO, who is developing a mobile app to help employers manage the lifecycle of their employees.
